My name is Ivy Miller and I'm on a mission to shake sentience back into the human race.
I started writing in 2003 in direct response to my parents' divorce. For me, writing began as a way to process difficult emotions, rather than becoming numb to them.
One of my biggest beliefs is that we as a society are all becoming a little too numb in response to our issues--our dying environment, our corrupt economic systems, our own personal struggles.
During my time in college, I picked up a number of issues I care about deeply: mental health, climate change, social justice. My work often reflects interpersonal relationships, self-love, conscious living, and sustainability.
After earning my writing degree in 2016, I accepted a corporate sales job in Midtown Manhattan. Wandering so far outside of my field of expertise was an incredible learning experience and financial opportunity. But after one year of intense performance pressure, unbalanced work/home life, and the moral dilemma of a bait and switch company, I left my position with the knowledge of exactly what I don't want my life to become.
After quitting my job, I took some time off and decided to leave the United States to learn more about sustainability and permaculture by living on an organic farm in Costa Rica. I lived there for one month, foraging fruit in the jungle, harvesting coffee and cacao, and rekindling my connection with nature.
I am currently back in New York City, freelancing and writing about my life-changing experiences of this past year.
I am currently working on a children's book about plastic and ocean pollution.
I'm a singer-songwriter and you can usually find me jamming at an open mic.
I'm an avid hula hooper and I carry a hoop with me almost everywhere I go.
You can see more of my talents and hobbies on my Instagram account.
